Consider these specialities depending on your role
Always responsible for the creation and verification of CE labelling, except in special cases!
- Take into account the framework conditions from standards and directives on early stage of product development in order to save yourself additional expenses of adapting the product for proof of conformity.
- Only use CE-marked components in your product to ensure a lean and efficient conformity verification process.
- As a distributor, remember that correct operating instructions in the respective national language are a central component of product conformity.
- Regardless of whether you are a distributor or not; for competitive reasons, you should only ever offer products with completed CE labelling.
easyCE supports you in preparing the necessary documents for the conformity assessment, in creating compliant operating instructions and all accompanying measures for the conformity assessment.
In some cases, you as the operator are responsible for the CE labelling. Operators are always obliged to provide CE evidence!
- As an operator, you may be responsible for the CE labelling of the following products: Machines, electrical devices, medical devices, systems, etc.
- In particular, if you combine individual elements or products with each other, you are obliged as operator to CE mark the resulting combination.
- Even if operators manufacture products for their own use, they are subject to the CE labelling obligation, as operators must ensure that their employees work on compliant and safe products.
easyCE is at your disposal for all questions regarding conformity. If you have any doubts about the CE conformity of a product you have purchased or wish to purchase, easyCE will be happy to check the CE documentation for you.
In most cases, the exporter is responsible for providing proof of CE labelling.
- If you export products requiring CE labelling to a country in the European Economic Area and the product is only transferred to your customer after import, you are responsible for CE labelling.
- Be prepared to demonstrate product compliance with all applicable regulations to customs and other regulatory authorities.
- If you are exporting a product to the United Kingdom, we will be happy to help you achieve UKCA conformity.
With regard to CE and UKCA, we help you to prepare or check the documents for conformity assessment, which include product analysis, risk assessment, type plate and the final declaration of conformity. We also check your operating instructions and their contents for conformity.
In most cases, the importer is responsible for providing proof of CE labelling.
- If you import products requiring CE labelling from a third country into a country of the European Economic Area, you are responsible for ensuring that the products bear CE labelling and comply with all applicable directives and standards.
- You must be able to prove this to customs and other supervisory authorities, otherwise the import may be stopped at your expense. You should therefore have received all the necessary documentation for all product components and proof of correct conformity assessment from the manufacturer before importing.
- Remember that correct operating instructions in the respective national language are also part of product conformity.
easyCE supports you in preparing the necessary documents for the conformity assessment, in creating compliant operating instructions and all accompanying measures for the conformity assessment.

CE marking and conformity assessment of all life phases of a copper mining tunnel boring machine in Australia
easyCE supports the entire conformity assessment process including risk assessment up to the declaration of conformity ready for signature for all phases of the life cycle of a tunnelling machine for copper mining in Australia. The completely new concept of using multi-arm cutting heads required special attention during the process. In addition to the conventional regulations, special safety and technical requirements that apply in Australia were also taken into account.
RL & VO: MRL - 2006/30/EU, EMC - 2014/30/EU, Low voltage - 2014/35/EU, PED - 2014/68/EU, ATEX - 2014/34/EU
CE labelling of switch cabinets
easyCE supports the entire conformity assessment process, including risk assessment, right through to the declaration of conformity for control cabinets ready for signature. In particular, the requirements from the Machinery, EMC and Low Voltage Directives with regard to DIN EN 60204-1: 2019-06 and DIN EN IEC 61439-1: 2021-10 had to be observed. A checklist was also drawn up for the selection of components that must fulfil special requirements (supplier selection).
CE marking and declaration of conformity of a mobile satellite communication system
easyCE supports the entire conformity assessment procedure, including risk assessment in accordance with the EMC Directive, right up to the ready-to-sign declaration of conformity for a satellite communication system. The system ensures the redundant forwarding of TCP/IP data in order to send or receive it via two or more satellite antennas. The system is used wherever a mobile communication system needs to be set up quickly over long distances.

Conformity assessment procedure and CE marking for a 2D laser cutting system
easyCE supports the entire conformity assessment procedure for a 2D laser cutting system with automatic plate changer. The entire safety concept, including the 2-beam light barrier, was harmonised for the laser cutting system, the performance level was determined, a product analysis was carried out and a risk assessment was performed in accordance with EN ISO 12100. Special requirements resulted for the mechanical components of the traverse for the laser cutting head, but in particular for the kinematics of the plate changer and laser cutting head. The cutting process (laser class 4) inside the cabin is safely shielded from the operator by laser safety screens, additional safety devices and the complete enclosure: Laser class 1 outside the machine.
Takes into account, among other things: 2006/42/EC, 2014/30/EU, EN 13675:2010-10 etc.

Frequently asked questions
Which products are considered machines and must bear a CE marking according to 2006/42/EC?
All products that have moving parts that are not driven by human or animal power. Regardless of whether the machine is complete or incomplete, the conformity assessment and CE marking are mandatory. This also includes interchangeable equipment, safety components, load handling devices, chains, ropes and belts as well as removable cardan shafts.
Which other directives must be taken into account when CE marking machines?
Which directives have to be taken into account in the conformity assessment depends on the nature of the machine. However, our experience has shown that when CE marking machines, the ROHS-Directives 2011/65/EU, the ATEX-Directives 2014/32/EU, the EMC-Directives 2014/30/EU and the Low voltage directives 2014/35/EU must often also be taken into account.
Do only manufacturers or also operators of a machine have to carry out a conformity assessment?
The manufacturer of a machine is obliged to mark it with the CE marking and thus to carry out a conformity assessment if the machines are intended to be placed on the market in the EEA.
In addition to the CE marking, the manufacturer must of course provide a type plate, a declaration of conformity and operating instructions. Even if machines are manufactured only for the company's own use, an operator must carry out the conformity assessment and CE marking.
What happens if a machine is modified or rebuilt?
If an operator inserts, connects or otherwise modifies a machine that already has the CE marking into existing systems, it must often be assumed that there has been a significant change and the conformity assessment must be carried out again.
Particularly when more powerful drives, new controls or protective devices are installed. The assessment of whether a change is "significant" must be considered based on safety-relevant aspects and is often very difficult. easyCE is happy to help you with this assessment.
How does the Machinery Directive differ from the Low Voltage Directive?
The Low Voltage Directive lists six groups of machines that are to be considered as electrical and electronic products exclusively under the Low Voltage Directive.
These are electrical or electronic products intended for domestic use, audio and video equipment, information technology equipment, ordinary office machines, low-voltage equipment and control devices and electric motors.
Does the risk assessment have to be carried out according to ISO 12100, EN ISO 13849-1, EN 62061?
The risk assessment is a central component of the conformity assessment procedure required by the Machinery Directive. Standards ISO 12100, EN ISO 13849-1 and EN 62061 are the central standards in risk assessment.
Who is responsible for CE marking, conformity assessment, risk assessment? How must the CE mark be affixed? ... etc.
